Restoration of the Listed Residence – Perikleous

Project Overview

Restoration of the Listed Residence – Perikleous

The restoration of the listed residence on Perikleous Street in Nicosia concerns a historic traditional mansion located in the heart of old Nicosia.

The conservation and restoration study was undertaken by architect Eva Konstantinou, with the aim of preserving and highlighting the building’s traditional character after many years of disuse.

The design incorporated all requirements related to construction materials, restoration methods and specialised finishes, ensuring that the original structure and its authenticity were retained to the greatest possible extent.

The additions introduced to the building follow contemporary construction methods and materials, while remaining recognisable and reversible. Their design is based on clean, simple lines, allowing them to remain distinguishable from the traditional fabric without altering the integrity of the historic residence.

The result is a restoration project that respects the monument’s identity, reinforces its timeless character and gives new life to an important piece of Nicosia’s architectural heritage.

Design Approach

The design approach for the restoration of the listed residence was based on respect for the original structure, the preservation of its traditional character and the careful enhancement of its architectural identity.

The conservation study incorporated appropriate construction materials, restoration methods and specialised finishes, with the objective of retaining the authenticity of the historic building to the greatest possible extent.

Any new additions were designed using contemporary construction methods and materials, while remaining clearly recognisable and reversible. This approach ensures that the new interventions are distinguishable from the original fabric without compromising the integrity of the listed residence.

Clean and simple design lines were used to support the monument’s timeless character, creating a balanced relationship between conservation, functionality and contemporary intervention.
